IOLAIR
pronounced Eye-oh-lair is from Gaelic and means EAGLE IOLAIR
is a small private kennel here in Ayrshire. I have owned dogs for most of my
life and I now enjoy showing my dogs, stewarding and judging. In the past I
have also dabbled in obedience, but only as a pastime, certainly not at
competition level!
I
am a Kennel Club member, a Kennel Club Assured Breeder and have also been a
member of the Scottish Kennel Club for many years.
I
award CCs in Belgian Shepherds and Australian Shepherds and presently am
listed as a ‘B’ breed specialist judge for Finnish Lapphunds. Having
fulfilled all the necessary KC & FLCGB requirements regarding judging
numbers for this breed, I will have completed the KC stipulated 7 years
judging the breed in 2013. From then on, with Kennel Club approval and if
invited, I will be available to judge and award CCs in Finnish Lapphunds. I
am also listed on Breed Club judging lists for: Border Collie, Bearded
Collie, Old English Sheepdogs, Polish Lowlands, Rough Collie and Shetland
Sheepdog; these being amongst some of my 'special interest' breeds.
I
served as Secretary of the 'Finnish Lapphund Club Of Great Britain' for four
years and during that period organised the first breed club open show. I was
also instrumental in organising Club events, Fun Days and informative breed
seminars.
I
was secretary of Irvine & District Canine Club, where we successfully
held two 'Open Shows' and one 'Companion Show’ annually, and for some
years was also a committee member and 'Membership Secretary' of NBSDC.
At
present I actively show and occasionally breed Finnish Lapphunds, a most
enjoyable breed to live with. I have watched this breed since the early days
when the first Lapphund was imported into the UK by Sue and Rodger Dunger in
1989. In 2004 I eventually owned my first Lapphund, Thulens Liisa of
Honeybears. By owning Totie I was smitten by the Lappie bug and after
attending a couple of breed specialty shows in Finland decided I would try
to import a bitch from the home of Lappies! This resulted in me being lucky
enough to import Orso-Farm Rosmariini from the world famous Orso-Farm kennel
owned by Eija Lehtimaki, an acknowledged authority on the breed. In 2008
Vhari was mated to Fin.Ch Chelville Tapio and this mating produced Iolair
Katja-1RCC and her brother Iolair Aatu - Crufts BOB 2010.
A
few years ago I imported semen from two very good stud dogs from the very
successful Lecibsin kennel, owned by Jukka Kusisto. Unfortunately although
using recognised experts in this field and inseminating different fertile
bitches, from the active fertile semen, we were unsuccessful on every
occasion. Bitterly disappointed at this negative outcome I then decided to
again look at importing new lines from Europe and we are now eagerly
awaiting the arrival of two beautiful puppies from Sarah Brandes’
Lapinlumon Kennel in Sweden. Lapinlumon Ziiku - a pretty bitch puppy and
Lapinlumon Beana - a super puppy dog should be with us in Scotland by early
March 2012. Details and photos of both of these puppies can be seen on
the 'News' page of our website.
Having
owned various breeds of dogs over the years I presently own BSD Tervuerens,
Australian Shepherds and Finnish Lapphunds. All our dogs are, loving,
intelligent, active breeds with a healthy sense of fun. They are excellent
all round dogs, making wonderful companions, beautiful show dogs,
enthusiastic workers, willing agility and obedience dogs as well as being
superb family pets. All our dogs are cherished and are treated as an
integral part of our family. Being 'Pastoral Breeds,' originally bred to
work, these breeds fare best when stimulated mentally and physically. They
enjoy the company of, and interacting with their owners, happy to be
included in whatever is going on around them at any given time.
Finnish
Lapphunds are still a fairly young breed in the UK and as such good puppies
can be 'thin on the ground' therefore if you are thinking about becoming a
Lapphund owner, it is advisable to place your name on our 'Puppy List.' By
placing your name on our waiting list there is no obligation to buy, it
simply means I will keep your contact details and you can then be updated
when litters are planned and informed what puppies may be available. If you
have any general enquiries about the breed, our dogs, planned matings, or
future litters please feel free to contact me as I am always pleased to talk
Lappies with fellow enthusiasts.
My
main priority is to have all Iolair puppies placed in a permanent home with
loving owners, where they can become part of a happy family.
All
our dogs are health checked, hip scored, eye tested and when necessary will
be DNA tested to determine prcdPRA status before being included in any
breeding programme.
